This project is a home server that was originally set up sometime in 2000 in order to have a centralized storage repository at home. It was originally used as a shared storage for the home PC's and to back-up files from those PC's. Later it expanded to store family photos and ran a web server to access those photos. The domain name nasdev.com was created and registered on Jun 2, 2003 along with it's sister domains nasprd.com 111gz.com. nasprd.com has since expired and is no longer use.
Nasdev stands for Network Attached Storage Device as that describes the function of the server.
Yes you are talking to my storage... It just happens to be running Solaris, apache, MySQL, php, glassfish, sendmail, Solaris Zones, VirtualBox and a few other things.As well as serving up 12 TB of storage around the house.

The Server is virtualized using Solaris Zones as follows:
0 global 1 ipcop - firewall used for controlling who sees what on the network. 2 111gz - runs my website 111gz funnily enough. This is a wordpress website with several sub sites. 3 redirector - reverse proxy 4 nas - Nas storage shared around the home. 5 public - immutable zone acting as an ssh entry point. 6 DBzone - Runs MysqlDB used for various things, like joomla, wordpress, cacti etc. 7 nasdev - Main website. 8 ampache - name says it all. 9 perf - perf db 10 vboxzone - runs VirtualBox

You will notice this server has nested virualization, i.e. Freebsd running inside VirtualBox which is running inside a zone which is running inside the global zone.
Why? Because I can ;-)
Server is on 24/7 and draws only 65W of power, mostly by the disk drives.
Cooling is by 3 inlet and one outlet fan running at very low speed by using a dropper resistor to drop the fan voltage to ~6V from the normal 12V. Internal components are all passively cooled, including the CPU, however the CPU does have a darn big heat sink, a Noctua NH-C12P with it's fan removed. ;-) It survives without aircon under the desk where it's so quiet that I can't hear it, even on days where the room temp has reached over 45 deg C in Sydney summer.
Rufus ( http://rufus.akeo.ie/ ) works very well in creating a bootable solaris usb from a solaris.usb file. This negates the need to fire up a Solaris VM just to get a usbcopy running and also avoids the catch22 situation of needing to boot Solaris in order to create a bootable Solaris USB.
I have been trying to grow some roccoto chillies and while one of the plants was going quite well. However after three months of growing I got hit with a thrip infestation and 3 of my 4 plants died.
The 4th plant was surviving quite well, it even had a flower
when suddenly for no apparent reason it stareted dying

So prune back the dead leaves is all I can do however it is now starting to show signs of new growth
